Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

i feel like i live on the far side of the moon. all of the Steampunks and assorted associates to me all seem to live on the East coast. granted that in many ways the flavor of the genre goes better with those antiquated brick buildings that have been everything from factories and breweries to speakeasies and restaurants. but isn't the American West a ripe category to mine for flavor? i live in southern california, a few miles away from the site of the last American Indian fight, theres lots of history here for those willing to look but its not as openly aparent as those brick behemoths that are strewn along the east like leaves from an autumn tree.

My friend, Seattle is the Steampunk mecca. Or should be. I've been all over the country in the last ten years and Seattle has THE most active community of steampunks, hands down. See: Seattle Steamrats.

Actually, from the Makers Faire, Burning Man and the Edison (in L.A.) to the explosion of steampunk up in Seattle, I'd say the West Coast has my coast beat hands down. We're trying to regroup, but it's been a humiliating defeat...
